Project: WellSexuality - youth and contemporary notions of sexuality in South Africa

The WellSexuality project sought to investigate how young people in South Africa perceive and frame sexuality and sexual health. The project is a collaboration between young adults in Johannesburg, anthropologists based at the University of the Witwatersrand, and a biomedical researcher and artist who run the Eh!woza public engagement project from the University of Cape Town. The pilot study combined the strengths of anthropological research with the strategies of a youth-focused public engagement project in order to better understand how people mediate between public discourse, perceived information from institutions, and lived experiences of sexuality. The project consisted of a two-day symposium and a performance evening held at the Kalashnikovv Gallery in Johannesburg as well as workshops (add link) with the young adults.
